With a staple gun, or a handful of small nails, an old blanket or comforter can be attached to the outside walls of your coop. Start at the roofline and staple or nail the blanket to your framing and be sure to pull it as tightly as you can. This will keep if from flapping and tearing loose in wind. Try to buy a heat lamp with a clamp on top so you can attach it to the ceiling beams in your coop. Otherwise, you can secure it with cable ties or nylon strapping. Set the heat lamp about three feet from the area where your chickens perch at night, and be sure to unplug it in the daytime, unless the temperature is not expected to rise above 40 degrees all day. An outer cover and heat lamp should provide enough protection from the cold for your chickens for most Florida winter nights.
